Welcome to Elephants!
Every day in our classroom we always begin with “activate” where we activate our brains and bodies ready for a day of learning. Every morning we do Handwriting, Literacy, Big Maths and Read, Write Inc where we learn lots of new skills and put them into practise. In the afternoon we practise our spellings and do our Topic work. Once a week we also do PHSE.
This year we will be covering the following topics :-
History - old toys and homes.
Science - materials, the seasons, our senses, animals and plants.
Geography - hot and cold countries, our local environment and the weather.
Within our topics we also develop our skills in R.E. Computers, Design Technology, Art and Music.
We also go on some exciting trips which always support and extend our learning experiences in the classroom.
We do P.E. every Tuesday when we enjoy doing Games, Dance, or Gymnastics, so we need our P.E. kits in school on these days.
We send out our homework sheet every Friday. Here you can find out our question of the week, Big Maths facts to learn and also our list of spellings for our spelling test which is also every Friday. We encourage all our Elephants to complete these tasks and return any work by the following Friday.
We also encourage our Elephants to read every day at home for about 10 minutes and put the book into our special grey tray when it is ready to be changed. Remember being able to talk about the events, characters and information contained in the text is just as important as being able to read the words. All our Elephants also have access to E books that can be read at home too.
Library books and Maths Games.
All Elephants can borrow a library book of their choice from our school library. We will also be offering the chance to borrow a maths game to play at home later in the term.
Both the library book and the maths games can be changed every Friday upon returning them to school.
Elmer our Elephant.
Every week one of the Elephants can take home our class mascot Elmer for the weekend. He comes complete with a book where you can record his adventures to share with the class upon his return on Monday morning.
