Welcome to Meerkats!
Our school day
Every morning we begin by practising our spellings in our zappers. We like it when our grownups can stay and help us practise these. After the register we do “activate” where we get our brains ready for the day ahead. We then do Literacy, Big Maths and Phonics before dinner time. In the afternoon we do guided reading, topic work and handwriting.
This year we will be covering a range of interesting and exciting topics:
History - old toys and homes.
Science - materials, the seasons, our senses, animals and plants.
Geography - hot and cold countries, our local environment and the weather.
Within our topics we also develop our skills in R.E. Computers, Design Technology, Art and Music.
We do PE on Wednesday and we also change our library books on Tuesday.
We send out our homework sheet every Friday .Here you can find out our question of the week, Big Maths facts to learn and also our list of spellings for our spelling test which is also every Friday. Homework needs to be return by the following Friday. If you complete your homework every week, you will be in the Always club at the end of term where we will all have a special reward.
In the Meerkats we love reading and would like everyone to try and read at home for 10 minutes every day. When your book is ready to be changed please put it into the blue tray next to the door when the children arrive in the morning. Remember being able to talk about the events ,characters and information contained in the text is just as important as being able to read the words. We will all have a log in to access the e-books at home as well, these will be allocated every Friday.
Sunny the Meerkat
Every Friday a special Meerkat will be chosen to take home Sunny the class Meerkat. When you take Sunny you will be given a special diary to record your adventures and photographs in, we will then share this with the rest of the class on Monday mornings.
Please follow us on Twitter : https://twitter.com/Y1Meerkats
