Welcome to Year 4KS
Dragons
Hi everyone and welcome to The Dragons class page!
Please follow us on our class twitter page @y4Dragons where you can find out some of the special things that we have been doing and learning about in school. We will try to post at least a couple of times a week with pictures, information and some of our wonderful work.
Our Curriculum
We have got an extremely exciting year coming up as we have some fantastic topics this year; here are just a few of them:
P.E.
Our P.E. lessons are on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. This year, we are asking children to not bring kit but to instead come dressed appropriately for PE on these days. We also have swimming lessons every Thursday morning starting in February. We will provide further detailed information regarding these lessons closer to the time.
Homework
Homework will be put on Google classroom on Fridays in the homework folder. Please sign the table in the back of your child’s reading record to confirm that they have completed this. Nothing else needs to be handed in.
Spellings
New spellings will be given out on Mondays. For most children, these spellings are taken from a prescribed list of words from the National Curriculum that the children need to know by the end of Y4. We will practise these in school and we ask you to encourage your child to practise these at home also.
Learn Its
Our school teaches some elements of Big Maths, a programme designed to improve children’s mental maths ability. Learn Its are a set of facts that children need to be able to instantly recall. The homework sheet will include 4 new Learn Its for your child to practise every fortnight.
Time Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
We ask your child to practise times tables facts by logging onto TTRS and playing games of their choosing at least 3 times a week. Please tally in the back of your child’s reading record every time they go on and play a game. Please initial to confirm this.
Learning Logs
Our Learning Log homework is always linked to our topic work and is a way to further enchance your child’s knowledge and enjoyment of what we are studying. We would love for parents/carers/older brothers or sisters to get involved in these tasks too!
Reading
Children have reading record books, which we encourage you to fill in each time your child reads at home. Children bring these in every Friday and we will record the number of reads towards the 100 reader challenge. Children will collect their reading records on Mondays to bring home again.
Our Class Promises
At the start of the term, we made some class promises which feel will make our classroom a fun and safe place to learn. They are:
