Welcome to Year 4KS
Hi everyone and welcome to The Dragons class page!
Please follow us on our class twitter page @y4Dragon where you can find out some of the special things that we have been doing and learning about in school. We will try to post at least a couple of times a week with pictures, information and some of our wonderful work.
We have got an extremely exciting year coming up as we have so much planned, including our visits The Foundry Climbing Centre and Chapeltown Park, the Summer Singing Festival at Ecclesfield school and our unique sleepover at The Deep. In addition, we have some fantastic topics this year; here are just a few of them:
What puts the steel in Sheffield?
Were the Romans really rotten?
Can we transform our school grounds into a wildlife paradise?
Our P.E. lesson is on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has both an indoor kit (white t-shirt and shorts) and an outdoor kit (t-shirt, jogging bottom, trainers and jumper/jacket) in school every Wednesday. We also have swimming lessons every Thursday morning. Again, please ensure your child has the appropriate swimming kit and a towel in school as they will be unable to attend their swimming lesson without it.
Homework will be given out every Friday to be returned the following Thursday.
New spellings will be given out and tested every two weeks on Thursdays. For most children, these spellings are taken from a prescribed list of words from the National Curriculum that the children need to know by the end of Y4.
Our school teaches Big Maths, a programme designed to improve children’s mental maths ability. Learn Its are a set of facts that children need to be able to instantly recall, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.
Our Learning Log homework is always linked to our topic work and is a way to further enchance your child’s knowledge and enjoyment of what we are studying. We would love for parents/carers/older brothers or sisters to get involved in these tasks too!
Children have reading record books, which we encourage you to fill in each time your child reads at home. Children bring these in every Thursday and we will sign to acknowledge this. We will also be continuing with the e-books, where children can read books that have been set for them by their teacher on their kindle, ipad, PC or smart phone.
Our Class Promises
At the start of the term, we made some class promises which feel will make our classroom a fun and safe place to learn. They are:
We learn from our mistakes.
We put 100% effort into our work.
We respect our school and everybody and everything in it.
We are kind to each other.
We listen when other people are talking.
Thank you for visiting our page; if you have any questions or feedback, please see Miss Kenny or Mrs Stordy.
